Cyprus Embassies Worldwide Promote Cyprus through the Arts, Exchange, and Culture

The Cyprus High Commission in India organized, on Thursday 9 November, 2017, a Photographic Exhibition in New Delhi, entitled “Life in Cyprus Through the Lens of Socrates Pericleous”. The exhibition consisted of 50 photos under four categories Nature, Landscape, Architecture and People. The event was attended by Ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of cultural organizations and the private sector, artists, journalists and other guests with particular interest in Cyprus.  Socrates Pericleous has had an active presence in Cyprus photographic life, both in creative and landscape photography as well as architectural. He took part in numerous competitions, winning various prizes, while since 1988, he teaches art photography and some of his students have won prizes in Cyprus and abroad.

The General Consulates of Cyprus and Mexico in New York successfully organized a cultural event, entitled “Mexican - Cypriot Cultural Exchange: Discovering the bonds between our cultures”, which took place on Tuesday, 21 November 2017, at the General Consulate of Mexico. The purpose of the event was to display the two cultures through traditional food and customs. Cyprus Consulate has presented a small exhibition of Cyprus Laces “Lefkaritika” and offered some Cypriot wine, while the Mexican Consulate showcased Mexican handicrafts and offered some Mexican Gastronomy

On 17 November 2017 an exhibition consisting of artwork of Jews who had passed from Cyprus between the years 1946 1949 took place at the Eretz Israel Museum in Tel Aviv. The whole project was put under the auspices of the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Tel Aviv, while it has been symbolically sponsored by the Government of Cyprus. The exhibition was installed by the Ambassador of Cyprus in Israel, Ms. T.S. Shambos and by the Mayor of Tel Aviv Yafo Mr. Ron Huldai. The event took place in the presence of a plethora of guests from the diplomatic, political, economic and commercial circles of the country. The above exhibition, which highlighted once again the historic link between the Cypriots and the Jews after the Holocaust, was curated by Sigal Harari (wife of the former Ambassador of Israel in Cyprus, Michael Harari), while its aim was to present an extensive artistic collection portraying the lives of the 54000 survivors of the Holocaust which resided in the British camps in Cyprus during the period 1946 1949.

The new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Russian Federation, Mr. Leonidas Markides, presented, on October 2017, at a ceremony held at the Kremlin, his credentials to the President of Russia, Mr. Vladimir Putin. Referring to Cyprus, he said that the Russian relations with the Republic of Cyprus are gaining momentum. They are based on the cultural and spiritual kinship of the people. During a brief conversation with President Putin after the ceremony, Ambassador Markides thanked the Russian President for his country’s strong and continued support on the Cyprus problem and assured him of his readiness to work for further reinforcing the traditionally excellent bilateral relations between Russia and Cyprus.
