Darnell Summers is currently a journalist and consultant at the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy.
Darnell Stephen Summers was born on July 9, 1947 in Detroit Michigan, USA. Darnell has professional experience as a Musician, Film Director, Actor, Media Editor, Composer, Cameraman, Producer and Sound Technician and currently works at the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy in Berlin, Germany.
Summers served as a volunteer for the US Army from 1966 to 1970. During his leave at home before going back to Vietnam in 1968, he became involved in the struggle to establish the Malcolm X Cultural Center (MXCC) in Inkster Michigan, a suburb in Detroit. He became an active spokesperson for the MXCC.
His political achievements included his membership in the Black Workers Congress, the Vietnam Veterans Against The War / Vietnam Veterans Against The War (Anti-Imperialist) and charter member of the Malcolm X Cultural Center (Inkster Michigan). Summers was involved in organizing the ‘STOP THE WAR BRIGADE’ in Germany during the Gulf War to help build support for anti-war GIs.
