Biography

Mogens Lykketoft has held a variety of positions within the Danish parliament. He was Minister for Taxation from 1981 to 1982, Finance Minister from 1993 to 2000, Foreign Minister from 2000 to 2001, and was elected as Speaker of the Danish Parliament in 2011, a position which he still holds. Within the Socialdemokraterne (Social Democrats) Party, he has held an abundance of positions: Chairman of the party between 2002 and 2005; economic and political affairs and finance policy spokesman from 1988 to 1991; political spokesman between 1991 and 1993 and 2001-02. Additionally, he has been a preeminent member of such bodies as the Income Tax Committee (1975-77), the Board of Assessors (1976-81 and 1984-93), the Folketing’s Fiscal Affairs Committee (1984-86), the Folketing’s Trade and Industry Committee (1987-88), and the Folketing’s Economic and Political Affairs Committee (1988-90). Mogens graduated with a degree in Economics from the University of Copenhagen in 1971. Mogens has written, or co-written, several books, and one of his primary concerns is social equality. He has written, co-written, or edited the following:
