The event included discussions about the past, present and future of Cultural Diplomacy in the Balkans, Middle East and North of Africa and also about the role of the Mediterranean in the 21st Century.

The Levant, “a zone of peace and development in the 21st Century”

Radio România Actualităţi, 25th of May 2013. A special conference entitled ’’Levant, the cradle of the Cultural Diplomacy. Rediscovering the Mediterranean’’ has taken place in Bucharest. The event included discussions about the past, present and future of Cultural Diplomacy in the Balkans, Middle East and North of Africa and also about the role of the Mediterranean in the 21st Century.

The academics that were present at the conference on Cultural Diplomacy in the Levant believe that religious values and shared traditions can be trust-worthy ambassadors for reconciliation in the Middle East. Former President of Romania, Emil Constantinescu, stated on Radio Romania Actualitati that we can draw on the history of past civilisations in the countries of the Levant to help us find solutions to Middle East conflicts. He emphasised the role of academics in developing the ideas of Cultural Diplomacy.

The event was organized by the Institute of Cultural Diplomacy in Berlin in partnership with the Senate and the Government of Romania, the Romanian Cultural Institute, the University of Bucharest and the Romanian Foundation for Democracy.
