On October 8th 2015 the presentation of the physically huge audiovisual event “Spain Today. A new vision of Spanish talent” was opened in one of the central squares in Spain’s capital Madrid. In the Plaza de Colón, the event was opened with the aim of publicizing the reality of Spain in 2015. Present at the opening was the Minster Jose Manuel García-Margallo alongside the Mayor of Madrid Manuela Carmena who told those in attendance to “listen, unite and never divide”. The Minister then addressed the large crowd gathered for the opening and told them “we want Spanish people to recover the pride of being Spanish”.

The video was projected onto a huge screen measuring 13 meters wide and 9 high which had been erected in the square. The screen is a work of art in itself, it has a curved facade in order to represent the waves of the sea surrounding the country. On to the screen the video “Spain Today” will be shown from 8th to the 11th October. The video itself aims to give an impression of Spain today, of its values and culture, identity, solidarity as well as its heritage, food, industry and sports. As well as the “Spain Today” video, there will also be other videos projected onto the screen during the four days it is in Madrid. A 3D animation called “Mientras Tanto” created by the artist Javier de Juan will also be aired.

The production has been organized by the company Marca España who aim to spread a positive image of Spain and encourage Spaniards to be proud of coming from their country as well as spreading the message to other countries. In this respect the video project “Spain Today” has also been on display in Barcelona and Berlin previously. There is also a High Commissioner for Marca España from the Spanish Government who ensures that the public and private spheres can work smoothly together in the planning and implementation of projects to build a strong and positive image of Spain.
