Poland establishes diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Tonga

A Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Poland and the Kingdom of Tonga was signed in New York. In this way Poland currently maintains diplomatic relations with all countries of the United Nations.

On behalf of the Government of the Kingdom of Tonga the Joint Communiqué was signed by H. E. Mr. Mahe’uli’uli Sandhurst Tupouniua, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Tonga to the United Nations.

On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Poland it was signed by Ambassador Bogusław Winid, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations in New York.

The Joint Communiqué came into effect from the date of its signing, which is 31st of August.

Speaking to Radio Tonga News – Hon. Fanetupouvava’u Tu’ivakanō of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Tonga is very happy with the initiative and looking forward to a fruitful cooperation with the Polish Government.

Information from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs says, Poland looks forward to ever closer cooperation with the Kingdom of Tonga, also within the UN, among other things on the implementation of the new 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

In the last two years, Poland established diplomatic relations with Nauru, Kiribati, Micronesia and Tuvalu.

These Pacific Island States are particularly exposed to negative effects of climate change.
