Brave Festival 2015 in Wrocław

On July 10th in Wrocław the 11th Brave festival began in Wroclaw. Brave Festival is responsible for promoting cultural values in society and will last for more than one week, during which the audience will be able to get more familiar with traditional beliefs, customs and works coming from many different countries, regions and ethnic groups.

This year, the main theme of the festival is Griots – a group creating art in regions of West Africa. They specialize in making unique stories and speeches, singing traditional songs and playing on instruments which often are not well-known in Europe. During Brave Festival there will be more than 50 events presented, all dedicated to keeping traditions alive and promoting them among different society groups. The festival program contains many diverse activities, including not only concerts and plays but also conferences, film reviews, exhibitions and workshops. During the second week guests could learn how to create their own stories just as Griots do, and how to play on traditional drums.

Brave Festival was set up in Wrocław in 2005 by Song of the Goat Theatre Association,  a well-known cultural institution in Europe responsible not only for creating modern and outstanding performances but also for holding different workshops that help people to be closer to the humanitarian values. The festival works to oppose cultural exile, and works under the official patronage of UNESCO. Brave festival has so far been held ten times, with each one conducted with a different main theme, including 2012’s ‘Women Initiating’ and 2014’s ‘Scared Body’. Furthermore, the main events are preceded by the Brave Kids Festival, which not only connects young people from all over the world, but also contributes towards children’s education.
